I just happened to be throwing myself a pity party. I had locked myself in my dorm room and was watching SOAP on repeat, intent on never coming out. You see, I had recently been broken up with and I thought the world was coming to an end. Wallowing in self pity, I couldn't find my way out of the darkness that I was in. It's a good thing I was in college, and I had friends good enough to barge in the room (Holler, Steph!), tell me to get dressed, and wisk me away to a party at Purdue! I was completely hesitant, but knew I needed to do something to get out of my funk, so even though it was almost 10 PM (WHAT?? I've always been an early in bed type of person!), I got dressed and decided to go.

This little 1 hour road trip away from Indy, was life changing to say the least (no really, to a 20 year old...it was!)! It was my first time merging onto a highway, my first time driving through a drive-thru window, and my first time going to a frat party! Whew...my world was a changing! Lol.  We had a blast that night talking to and meeting new people and even dancing some (No, I didn't get drunk, as I didn't drink at the time! - but who needed it! I was on an obvious high after merging onto I-65! haha) We drove home at about 2 AM, and as we pulled into the parking lot, Norah Jones "Don't know why" came on the radio and ended the perfect evening away from my wallowing!

I tell you this story because this month's selfie I did an in-camera Double Exposure. I've never done this before but have always been intrigued by it, soo I decided it was high time I learn it! It wasn't just me, but also my cat, Remmi who starred in the pictures...sometimes I think just me by myself is a tad boring, so why not spice it up with a cat, right?!?

Anywho, being a double exposure, it just made me think of how it's never too late to reinvent yourself. It's never to late to be more than one thing, and it's never to late to decide to change things if this life isn't going the way you wanted...You can't let one event in your life define you, you have to move on and remind yourself that you are the one who decides what your future will look like! And if you can't do that...go to a party with your friends - it works, trust me!  -Abby

Indianapolis Children's Photographer // 6 months - Claire https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2014/3/indianapolis-childrens-photographer---6-months---claire It is such a joy to see Ms. Claire grow up! I swear every time I see her, she's approximately a million times bigger than the last time I saw her, and her face has changed so much! I love that about babies - they always surprise you!

This session is one of my faves, and she was such a doll to work with! Go on, take a look for yourself!

She had SO MUCH ENERGY!!! It was good though, I needed the workout :)  I was so excited to be photographing this family, because I went to high school with Cynthia! I love seeing her in her role as a mom and think she's doing such a great job with that sweet daughter of hers! Enjoy these photos, and the love that shines through them!

A story in selfies // February https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2014/3/a-story-in-selfless---february I know I am late, but I made a resolution at the beginning of the year to do at least 1 selfie a month. This may seem like an odd thing to do, but here are my reasons behind it:

1. Push myself creatively. Yes, this first month is pretty tame, but I plan on trying to think up new ideas and see what I can come up with each month!

2. Be more vulnerable with clients and anyone who reads my blogs. I want you all to know me and to really get a sense of who I am. I think it will be fun sharing parts of myself with you all each month! I will tell a story of some sort to go along with each selfie!

3. Having a goal and meeting it. I have tried to do the 365 day AND the 52 week photo challenges and never kept up with it - I figure I should be able to keep up with this one - YES, I am already behind, but I plan on catching up and accomplishing my 12 selflies before 2015!

Now, onto the selfies and my story of the month!

Indianapolis PhotographerIndianapolis PhotographerIndianapolis Photographer

When I was little I remember my parents getting us dressed to go out in the snow and play. Often times I was the last to be ready since I was the youngest and probably also the slowest! Now, I don't know about you guys, but we had a nice little play set as children - one with a slide. That slide was the key ingredient of a snow day at home…if we were first to get ready and go out, we could be the first to clear the snow off the slide…with our butts…sliding down it! I don't know WHAT it was about being the first one to do that, but it used to drive me insane when my sisters would get to go out and clear the slide first. In my mind, it meant that they had more fun than me, and nobody wants to start off their snow day like that!

Indianapolis PhotographerIndianapolis PhotographerIndianapolis Photographer

Consequently, I was often left with the next best thing…the swing, or even so, the next next best thing….just eating snow, hiding around a corner (I had to hide from my parents, who told me not to eat snow, but it was just so good!) And because of this, my poor mother was left with the task of rotating turns to make things fair, and listening to her 3 lovely children whine about who went first last time!

Indianapolis PhotographerIndianapolis PhotographerIndianapolis Photographer

You may be asking yourself what in the heck does this have to do with anything?! I'm not 100% sure, but when I walked outside to do these pictures, I backed up close to this evergreen out in my yard, took off my coat, and a bird got spooked and flew away…and then another bird, and another. Yes, the snow from the branches absolutely fell off, right on my head and on my back! And while I couldn't believe that had just happened to me, it took me back to those moments when I was younger…I got the first snow this time, even if it was just off of an evergreen tree, from a bird…I had the most fun that day, and damn it, it was worth it!

Northwest Indiana Family Photographer // Mackenzie https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2014/2/northwest-indiana-family-photographer---mackenzie Everyone! I want you to meet a very special friend of mine! Her name is Mackenzie and this is a "day in the life" of a 2 year old!

This is where she was giving me her fake smile and still pretty unsure of who I was:

This is where she warmed up to me and said "I don't care who you are, I'm having fun with my bubbles!" (Ok, not really what she SAID, but what I think is going through her mind!)

Then she was like "Hey Abby! Let's have a tea party!"

Indianapolis Proposal Photographer // Stephanie and Jeff https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2014/2/indianapolis-secret-proposal-photographer---stephanie-and-jeff Jeff contacted me over the summer about 2 weeks before he was about to propose to his girlfriend, Stephanie, and asked if I would be interested in photographing their proposal. Are you kidding me?! This is the stuff I live for! Being able to provide people with those kinds of memories never gets old! So I met up with Jeff about a week before and walked the canal in downtown Indianapolis, to find the perfect place to propose. We had the place all picked out and I got there about 20 minutes before they would so I could get in my spot and be ready (might I note that I was also really nervous...I don't know why, it's not like I was proposing to anyone! LOL). I saw Jeff and Stephanie walking towards me on the canal and WAY before he was supposed to, Jeff got down on one knee and asked Stephanie to be his wife :)  Now, I only let you in on this little secret that it was way before he was supposed to because:

1. I still got the shot (whew!)

2. It just illustrates how ready Jeff was to ask Stephanie to be his wife. I just think it's so cute that he couldn't wait until the planned spot!

So I met up with them after the proposal, both still a little shaky (for anyone who hasn't been proposed to before...it's like an out of body experience - the best kind, of course!) and did a few quick pictures before they were whisked off to have dinner with their families and celebrate! I am so excited for their future together - it's going to be a bright one! Thank you SO much for letting me be a part of this beautiful moment in your lives!

Fly with Me // Klein Curaçao https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2014/2/fly-with-me---klein-curaco As you know, we went to Curaçao for our honeymoon and LOVED every second of it! Being that the weather is the way that it is right now, I think I look back on that trip even more fondly, and certainly wish that we could be back there right now!

As I mentioned in the last blog about Curaçao we took a trip to an island called Klein Curaçao for a full day. It was such a great trip…taken by catamaran, hanging out on the beach,  checking out an abandoned (yet still working) lighthouse, exploring the 4 shipwrecks on the island, swimming with turtles, eating delicious food that the crew made for us (the crew, by the way spoke 4 languages!), and seeing some snakes and octopus while snorkeling! It sure was a great trip that I can't recommend enough!

Wooster, Ohio Wedding Photographer - Quailcrest Farm Wedding // Avan & Dustin https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2014/1/wooster-ohio-wedding-photographer---qualcrest-farm-wedding---avan-dustin From the moment I looked up this venue on the internet, I knew this would be a beautiful wedding! Quailcrest Farms is kind of in the middle of nowhere in Ohio, but so worth the drive!  The location was gorgeous...amazing grounds for tons of places to take pictures, and a beautiful couple to take pictures of!  Avan looked incredible and the way that Dustin looked at her was how every bride wants their groom to look at them!

It was a crazy sunny day (as in, not a cloud in the sky type day...except for those little ones that don't ever cover the sun!), but the weather was perfect! For their first dance as husband and wife, Avan's father and brother sang (live!) , and it was just the sweetest...here's wishing you two a lifetime of happiness!

Destination Wedding Photographer: Kentucky Farm Wedding Photographer // Kena and Eric https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2014/1/kentucky-farm-wedding-photographer---kena-and-eric To begin to describe this wedding is so hard for me! There was so much beauty and so much love - amazing floral arrangements every way you turned by Jewlies, gorgeous DIY table adornments that were pieces from family and friends, a handmade arch made by her father (it ended up raining and they didn't get married under it, but it was INSANELY gorgeous!), and a ring blessing ceremony by their closest family and friends. It was a day to remember! Sure, things didn't go exactly as planned, but it was so gorgeous and I can't believe this all came together in a short 4 months!

Also, keep a look out for the awesome father daughter dance - They danced to Funky Cold Medina by Tone Loc and it was hilarious!

Kena & Eric, you bring happiness to any room you are in! Thank you SO so much for letting me capture your story, it sure was a beautiful one!  Here's to a lifetime of happiness and great memories!

Tips on planning your wedding: Saving money https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2014/1/tips-on-planning-your-wedding-saving-money So, I threw together my wedding in just 3 months and after that I feel like I could run an entire site on what to do for weddings! But because I'm not going to do that, I thought I'd write a few blog posts. This first one is how to save money on your wedding!

1. Figure out early on what is important to you and make sure you set the money aside for just that. For me the #1 most important thing to me was wedding photography and video. Obviously this can be expensive, but for me I knew it was one of the only things that would last and help me to remember the day as it happened. So I made sure that I got a good photographer and videographer! I think the #2 priority (after venue, of course!) was dessert…LOVE me some dessert!

2. Have your wedding on any day of the week other than Saturday! The cost of our wedding venue was cut in half because we had it on a Friday. If you have over 6 months planning your wedding, I really recommend doing a Friday (or any day other than Saturday) wedding - it's enough time for family and friends to get off work if they really want to be there. Honestly, it didn't even feel like a Friday wedding to me…it felt like a Saturday, and we had a GREAT turn out, even for just having 3 months notice!

3. ASK. This might seem really obvious but if you want a discount on something, just ask for it! Sure most of the time they will say no, but sometimes they say yes and it will save you money! Early on, I had asked a photographer that I had been following for YEARS if they were available to shoot my wedding - I didn't have enough money to pay what they normally charge, but told them what I could pay…they said they would totally do it since I had been a fan of theirs for so long…how did they know? I commented on their statuses and blog often. It really does pay off! In the end we couldn't work it out because they had a wedding to shoot the next day and they couldn't find a red eye flight out after my wedding - but just knowing that people are willing to compromise was huge! I know that a lot of people will not budge on prices, but it's always worth asking!

4. Fake flower centerpieces, people! I ordered $250 worth of fake flowers…I ordered from afloral.com for 14 tables centerpieces! I put them in ball jar type jars, and I think they looked pretty fabulous! I did have real flowers for the whole bridal party though! (I've also heard that grocery stores like Kroger and Costco are doing wedding flowers now…they cost probably a 1/4 of the cost as florists do!)  We also made the table numbers out of homemade confetti, which probably cost us about $4 total….sure it took a LOT of time, but saved us money!  If I had done real centerpieces it would have cost me over $1,000…glad I didn't do that! Most people don't remember the centerpieces from your wedding, so I don't think it needs to be that big of a cost!

5. D I Y ….I can't say enough how much DIY really helped with how our wedding look turned out! I had specific items that I wanted and I put together a list and my family and friends would help and I would just do as much as I could when I had the time! I also purchased a font that I loved for about $20 and made signs for the bar, guestbook, lantern send off, dessert tables, etc. So for $20 I had a different font than anyone else and I designed the signs so there was a theme throughout the wedding. I printed these on thicker paper myself, probably saving myself a couple hundred instead of having someone design them and print them for us! We also had a homemade LOVE Marquee, a paint chip heart,  and so many other personal touches that I just truly loved!

6. Hair and Make up: Man…this was a toughie for me for more than 1 reason. I had someone lined up early on (2 months out) for my hair and make up. I did a trial run, which cost me $60. Then they sent me the invoice to reserve the date. There were many costs that weren't told to me up front and it included sales tax. Because I do photography I know that you don't charge sales tax on a service, but only something tangible…so I tried to get that sorted out and it didn't work, so I had to find someone else. This was 3 weeks before my wedding when all this came about. I found someone else, went to the trial with her 2 weeks before my wedding and I looked AWFUL. Haha…just terrible…so there went another $60 for another trial and I still had no one to do my hair and make up. At this point I was stuck paying a premium for everything, and didn't have time to do another trial. Lesson: Get recommendations from friends, family, Facebook people - ANYONE…and be sure to do a trial. Most good make up and hair people will do a free trial if you hire them, so just keep that in mind!

7. See if you can bring in your own cakeif they say it has to come from an approved vendor, ask them if Costco is ok. Sure, we had a whole dessert bar, but we also had a small 6 inch cake for us to cut and then 2 sheet cakes from Costco! Guess how much a sheet cake costs from there? $17….yup. If I went with a local bakery it would have cost me a couple hundred dollars to have that much cake! #BOOYAH!

Ok - I think this is enough tips for the day! :) I hope you enjoyed them…share this with anyone getting married and don't forget to contact me if you're looking for a wedding photographer or if I can answer any other burning questions for you!  -Abby

Indianapolis Wedding Photographer // Indiana Landmarks Center Wedding - Liz & James https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2013/12/indianapolis-wedding-photographer---liz-james---indiana-landmarks-center It was a beautiful, end-of-September day. The weather was just about perfect, there was hardly a cloud in the sunny sky, and I was shooting a fabulous wedding at the Indiana Landmarks Center! The couple: James and Liz. They currently live in Seattle, but came back to their home town to get their marriage on! They had one of the most unique combinations of flower colors I have ever seen - seriously beautiful! Pair it with the backdrop of the venue and it doesn't get much better than that!

Try not to drool when looking at pictures of this gorgeous wedding and happy couple! (Also - you will see a picture of a live band at the receptionif you are thinking about booking a live band for your wedding or ANY event, I HIGHLY recommend MY YELLOW RICKSHAW. They = most amazing live band you can imagine. You're welcome for that tip!)

Indianapolis Photographer // Ballerina - revisited https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2013/12/indianapolis-photographer---ballerina---revisited It's Throw Back Thursday AND it's been 2 whole years since I asked my (very understanding) sister to dress up in a ballerina outfit and head to an abandoned church with me. She obliged nicely, and we headed out to explore and get some pictures of an image that had been in my head for a few months! The juxtaposition was just what I had imagined and I loved the images! I would like to go back again and do it one more time with the knowledge I have of photography today, but if I never make it back for a reshoot, I will be very happy and content with these images!

Enjoy my [revisited] labor of love!

Fly with me -- Curaçao (Honeymoon) https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2013/12/fly-with-me----curacao-honeymoon When we were trying to pick out where to honeymoon it was a HARD choice, but eventually we decided we wanted somewhere relaxing, warm and with a European feel! Curaçao has been on our list for quite some time so the choice was obvious!

After about 6 hours of flying we arrived at our destination, where we would enjoy our new married life for 9 days in paradise! The air was warm, a little humid and the skies were blue. We grabbed a taxi and took off towards our hotel (Avila Hotel - which we highly recommend!!) Seeing the city of Willemstad for the first time, I will never forget. The beautiful and colorful buildings that are along the water are something I'd been waiting to see for a long time!

Once we arrived, we quickly made our hotel our home by popping some (complimentary) bubbly and checking out everything our hotel had to offer! We watched our first sunset on the beach and marveled at how blue the water was, with all the little crabs playing around, and knew we'd love our stay in Curaçao! And that we did - we rented a car and saw the west side of the island, visited 5 different beaches, swam with our first turtle and got sunburned from apparent lack of sunscreen application. We saw stray chickens and (adorable) wild cats, crazy birds and tons of lizards, we snorkeled (or snorked as we came to call it!) whenever we could and saw tons and tons of amazing fish and ocean life! We collected glass from the beach and coral from the ocean.

We walked to Willemstad no less than 5 times and did some shopping, went to the open food market and bought a fresh papaya which tasted like sweet honey (it was my first one!) and we laid on the sand and enjoyed our time together. Curaçao will always hold a special place in our hearts, and it's no wonder why! Please enjoy these pictures from our trip - there will be 1 more post at a later date about Curaçao, about when we went to Klein Curaçao for a day trip!

FOOD

Of course I had to end the blog with some (really awfully taken) pictures of our food at my favorite restaurant there! Rozendaels Restaurant had the most amazing dish called Keshi Yena - a Dutch specialty. It's the one on the left, and to me it tastes like pulled chicken with raisins (seriously - never would have considered that combo) covered in some sort of delicious cheese! Wash it down with a nice Polar Beer and it's the perfect meal! Oh man, I dream about this dish and wish I could make it myself!

Indiana Family Photographer // 2nd Birthday https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2013/12/indiana-family-photographer---2nd-birthday Ah to be 2 again, to see through the eyes of a child where playing with a barn by Fisher Price can fill you with glee, cartoons, like bubble guppies, can mesmerize you for hours on end and being spun around in the air or a wagon is the best thing EVER.  The word "No" makes you sad when anyone says it to you, you find emptying drawers amazing, and running around like you haven't been going nonstop, since you woke up 4 hours ago, isn't even tiring (except for the adults chasing after you)! You still don't have a ton of hair (really, what 2 year old does?), but what you do have is cute and curly, your clothes are super fashionable, and you tend to walk and bump into thingsespecially tables. The most important person to you is your mom and your smile can make the whole room light up.  Yes, this little 2 year old may be ornery, but she sure knows how to wrap everyone around her little finger…including me!

November: Top Instagram Images https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2013/12/november-top-instagram-images Images #1 this month was an image of the circle with the lights freshly put up on the monument! a whopping 20 people liked this image, and I can see why...it helps get you in the Christmas Spirit!

Image # 2 this month I took while we were on our way up North to visit family for a Faux Thanksgiving weekend! These are the (sometimes creepy) windmills around the Lafayette area!

Image #3 was taken on a beautiful November day while I was on my lunch on a walk! The sun hit the building just right and I was able to get a little sunburst and building reflections! (This one was my personal favorite of the month!)

What's your favorite image of the three featured? -Abby

Thankful https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2013/11/thankful Thankful:

/'ˈTHaNGkfəl/

adjective

  1. 1.
    pleased and relieved.

Sometimes things happen in your life that make you super thankful, like when I was a child and it was Friday night with all the TGIF greats on TV (such as Boy Meets World, Full House & Family Matters) and on top of it...it was pizza night! Things like this have been carried through my life, I get excited and feel blessed over little things all the time- but this time, I feel extra blessed and extra thankful for so so many things and I just wanted to share a few with you:

Clients AKA - FRIENDS: I feel so lucky to have had so many people believe in me this year and trust in me to capture your weddings, family sessions, engagements, etc. I feel like I am REALLY starting to come into my own as a photographer and am able to trust my visual instincts more than ever, and it's because you all have trusted me with a big, huge responsibility!  Thank you so much for believing in my vision and in me...it really means the world to me, I don't even think I can fully express my gratitude to show how lucky I feel to have belief in me as well as my business! Not only that, but I have made so many new friends this year through photography! Call me LUCKY!

Family & friends - I am sure you all saw, but I got engaged in June and then got married in October...Holy Hell Batman, that was fast! You don't have to tell me that, but pulling a wedding together, that ended up being the best day of my life and the most perfect day I could have ever imagined, in 3 months nonetheless, didn't come without a LOT of help! I have THE BEST friends & especially family. I have seen the true meaning of love and feel so full of love and thankfulness that sometimes I feel like I might explode!  You all were there for me through this fast whirlwind that was our wedding, and I am so lucky to have such a great support group around myself and Chris, and I know going forward we can tackle anything together!

Husband - From the moment we decided we were going to have an October wedding, Chris, my now husband, worked tirelessly getting our house ready and helped me to make the tough decisions when I just couldn't pick between Bells or Sam Adams, and was an all around huuuugggeeee support for me! We've grown closer having our wedding so fast, we've seen what we're made of (at least the start of it!) and we've been there for each other in ways we haven't been before! Standing at the altar next to him, saying vows and hearing beautiful readings from our family and friends was absolutely the best way to begin our lives together. I will never forget that day and how magical it felt!

Overall, I am just fullll of thanks and feel so so so lucky to have so many wonderful people in my lives! Thank you for letting me share my gratitude with you so that I don't actually explode :)  And because I am so thankful, I will be releasing my Black Friday deals early...so keep your eyes out on my facbook page and this blog later this week or early next week! -Abby

October: Top Instagram Image https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2013/11/october-top-instagram-image I want to give all those who don't have instagram a little peak into my life, so I will be sharing with you the top images from my instagram feed from each month! You can always follow me @abbyhacker

#1 - This was like 29 times! Who knew marriage could be such a hit! :D  Indianapolis Photographer

#2 - For some reason my phone didn't save the instagram version of this, but it was liked a total of 21 times! This was our first sunset in Curacao on our honeymoon (no filter needed!)...the start of a great 9 days! (Wishing I could go back right now!) Indianapolis Photographer

#3 - This wasn't technically my 3rd top liked photo in Instagram (it only got 16 likes), but I decided to pick my own for #3! :) The morning of my wedding while I was waiting for hair and make up people to get there, the photographer in me just couldn't help but set up a shot of my shoes and jewelry...ridiculous, I know...but I loved it!

And that is a peak into my October! It was by FAR the best month this year for me (Hellooooo marriage)! You can look forward to this feature reoccurring every month going forward! -Abs

Twenty-Nine https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2013/9/twenty-nine I've arrived. I'm in my last year of my twenties. A few weeks ago, I discovered my first grey hair (or rather, my fiance did); I stayed up until 2 AM two weeks ago, and felt like death the next morning; I would rather stay in most Friday nights than go out, and I would rather have friends over to have a beer around a fire, than go to a bar to have a beer (where, consequently the music is too loud); I wear glasses now when I drive at night; I still get jittery when I drink coffee; I like country music instead of metal and slipknot (though I still like listening to it on occasion just to keep up with my youth!); I get up for work at 5:30 AM so I can miss rush hour traffic; I have learned that I don't need another person to make me whole, but have learned what a great joy it is to have someone who honors and respects me and helps me be the best person I can be without trying to changing who I am or my beliefs; I would still rather spend my money on a trip overseas than a piece of furniture for our house; I have stopped the weekly phone calls with my girlfriends, but we still communicate through email and text and have a stronger bond than ever; I am still best friends with my BFF from 4th grade; I can say with great belief that my 965 girls and I will never miss going to a John Mayer concert together if we can help it; I am getting a mortgage for my birthday this year (seriously. How much more grown up can I be?); I am learning to go after my own dreams and get so excited after every shoot I do because I can see myself growing and being able to bring joy to people through photography is such a great pleasure;  I am remembering even more how I was in high school - where I honestly didn't care what others thought of me and marched to the beat of my own drum. I am trying to bring that side of me out even more and embrace who I am, because being just like everyone else and doing exactly what everyone else is doing - would make for a boring journey;  I look at the sky and enjoy sunsets, sunrises and stars more than I ever have; I read a devotional every night; I am watching friends get married, have babies and go after what they want and it warms my heart to see so much love around me...

I am chasing my dreams and envisioning a future so bright I need sunglasses. This is my 29....and it's absolute  perfection. I have never felt more at peace with where I am at in my life and if this is what 29 years of life brings, I can't wait to see what's next to come!  -Abs

Columbus Indiana Engagement Photographer // Lisa & Nick https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2013/9/columbus-indiana-engagement-photographer---lisa-nick Lisa emailed me a while ago (Shout out to Katrina, who referred her!) about doing engagement pictures for her and her fiance Nick.  I could tell immediately from her email that she would be really fun and easy to work with, and I was right! These two were super easy going, followed every instruction I asked without complaining (hey, making out on command is really hard, ok?!!) and looked amazing together! Their connection is obvious and these are some of my favorite engagement pictures taken to date! Even though it was 94 degrees out, they are from Virginia, so it didn't bother them and they didn't even have a red face like I did! It was my first time at Mill Race Park in Columbus, IN and it is such a fabulous place...I think we could have stayed there for hours!

Enjoy this beautiful summer engagement session!

Indianapolis Family Session // Holliday Park https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2013/8/indianapolis-family-session---holliday-park A while ago I donated a session to the Fatherless Foundation and I finally got the call from the family who won the bid on my package! Meet this generous family who so graciously donated in order to get a family session with me! We met up at Holliday Park in Indianapolis, and their family is just about the cutest ever. Their 3 girls are SO well behaved that I told them they should teach a parenting class! Basically, within the first 20 minutes I had enough pictures and could have stopped the session right then (for those who take pictures of kids...you should know best...this is a very rare occurrence!), But I kept going because I was loooving their family and the images I was getting! With that, I will leave you with their photos - I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

Indianapolis Engagement Photographer // Kena & Eric https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2013/8/indianapolis-engagement-photographer---kena-eric Y'all ready for a crazy story? I hope so...because here it is! Not too many Sunday's ago I was sitting at home when I received a text from one of my best friends Kena. Guess what it said?! It said she was going to need a photographer because...wait for it....SHE WAS ENGAGED!!! I know, you had no idea that was coming, did you?  Fast forward about a week, and I got engaged! Then she set her date for October and I thought she was crazy, 2 weeks later I set my date for the week after her wedding - apparently I am crazy too, and we are crazy together! We have known each other for 10 years and have grown so close over those years that even though we may only see each other 1 time a year or so, it feels like we hang out every single day. We don't miss a beat. We are best friends for ten years, got engaged a week apart and will now get married a week apart, and I get to photograph all the love on her wedding day! How's that for crazy?!

Anywho, this is Kena and Eric's engagement session! I have to tell you, I had my doubts before meeting Eric - could anyone really live up to the amazing man that Kena deserves? YES! Eric absolutely does and they are so perfect together! I witnessed it first hand taking their engagement pictures where we headed to Cincy/Kentucky and got some great shots, after the shoot, we had a steak-a-palooza at 10:30 at night...what? Don't judge us, we are awesome when we're all together! Ok, I've babbled on long enough, enjoy the pictures!

Indianapolis Wedding Photographer // Park Tudor - Emilie & Robert https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2013/7/indianapolis-wedding-photographer---park-tudor---emilie-robert I met Emilie and Robert for the first time a few months ago for a "business meeting" at Three Wisemen. Let's be honest....they were interviewing me to see if they liked me - which I clearly passed the test!  Two and a half hours later, with about 20 minutes of business talk thrown in there and we were fast friends! I got the "job", which hardly felt like a job being able to see these two exchange their vows, and later being blamed for making Robert tear up when Emilie came down the aisle! It was a beautiful wedding and I was happy I got to witness it!

The ceremony and reception were at the lovely Park Tudor, and they had great weather for their day in early June! I think that in itself is pretty lucky, because you really never know what you're going to get with Indiana!

I'm engaged! https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2013/6/im-engaged You may have noticed it's been a little quiet on here this week...well, I got engaged on Monday!!! It was a complete shock and I didn't expect it AT ALL (I mean, who proposes on a Monday?! Someone who's trying to throw their girlfriend off, that's who!) I had to take my ring in today to get it sized and won't get it back until next Monday, so I thought I'd take some pictures to show off what a good job my fiancé (so weird to say that!) did picking out my ring on his own!

HELP! Setting up your wedding day timeline // Indianapolis wedding photographer https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2013/6/help-setting-up-your-wedding-day-timeline As I have gotten a great opportunity to shoot many weddings over the past year and have many more coming up this year, I wanted to share my thoughts on setting up your wedding day timeline and things to think about when arranging how your day will go!

Indianapolis Wedding Photographer

Here is an example of one of my favorite timelines:

1 - 2:30 Getting ready (hair & Make up, putting dress on, groomsmen getting dressed, etc.) - Photographers will photograph reception hall during this time as well as the getting ready pictures

3 - 3:40 Bride & Groom do a first look and take some pictures with just them

3:45 - 4:40 Bridal Party Pictures, Groomsmen pictures, Full wedding party pictures

5:30 - Ceremony

6:00 - Cocktail Party while we do family pictures

6:30 - Bridal Party gets introduced

7 - Dinner is served

7:45 Speaches while everyone finishes up eating

8 - Cake cutting

8:05 First Dance and Parent dances

8:30 Bouquet toss and Garter toss

8:45 Sneak outside with the photographer for some final pictures with the sunset and night sky

9 - 11: Everyone dances

If you opt not to do a first look, that's perfectly fine - you can either add time in between the ceremony and the reception to take pictures, or you should expect 1 of 2 things; you may not have as many photos of just you and your groom together and your whole wedding party together OR you can opt to be pulled out later in the evening while dinner or dancing is going on to get a few more shots together.

So that is just something to think about - how much time you are giving your photographer. Don't hesitate to include and ask for advice from your photographer when making your timeline, most are happy to give you advice. It really could change how you think about your wedding day!  Because if they aren't given the time then please have your expectations in line on what kind of images and how many images you will receive!

Fly with me Friday // what to do in San Francisco, California https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2013/6/fly-with-me-friday---what-to-do-in-san-francisco-california Fly with me Friday is back!!!   I will be showcasing a featured location every first Friday of every month, until I run out of places that I have been! This month I am featuring San Francisco, CA - a place I was at for only 4 days and am dying to get back and explore more! Hopefully I can make it back to California sometime soon! What's your favorite city in California?!

Unfortunately on this vacation I didn't have my camera with me as much as I had hoped, so I only got pictures of a few places we went, even though we experienced so much more! It really is a great city with SO MUCH to do! The only thing I don't like is the hilly streets and windy roads. Let me tell you, I got motion sick just riding down the street! Pathetic.

San Francisco Bay This is the Golden Gate Bridge! SO fabulous! We walked the whole thing from one side to the other and back!

Why, you might ask?! Because it's some of my fabulous friends gender reveal party here in Indianapolis! I had the great opportunity of being the first person to find out if "lil pickle" was a boy or a girl...and then I had to keep that secret for FOUR DAYS!! FOUR DAYS, PEOPLE! Do you know how hard it was not to tell anyone who would listen? V E R Y! Thank goodness I had a busy few days after I found out to keep my mind preoccupied so I wouldn't spill the beans. So I filled the piñata, wore gender neutral color clothing to the party, and then was ready to photograph the reveal!

Enjoy their expressions after they found out! It's pretty priceless! SO EXCITED for them and I can't wait to meet lil pickle!

Changes are a coming! https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2013/5/changes-are-a-coming

I always try to be in-tune with what my clients are looking for and what they want during and after a session with me. Because of this I have decided to change the way I offer my sessions. I used to have a fixed session fee that would include digital images, but I have found that people would prefer my price includes prints as well. Because of this, the following changes will happen starting in June (If you'd like to lock in my current rates, just book your session with me before June and I will honor those rates)!

  • I will require a $100 retainer fee and signed contract to reserve your session/date.
  • The $100 fee can later be used towards a print package purchase (And everyone rejoices!!) thus ensuring you get the most out of your sessions!
  • I will offer 5 new print packages that will come with a range of prints depending on your price point. If you would like to see what they are, just message me and I can send them to you once I have them perfected!
  • I will offer digital images as a separate option and price point. If you decide you want digitals and no prints, that is still a viable option!
  • Ala cart options will be available after you purchase a print package, so if you don't see a package that fits what you need exactly, you can buy the one that closest matches what you want and then add according to what you want!

Confessions of a non-runner trying to run: Indianapolis Mini Marathon https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2013/5/confessions-of-a-non-runner-trying-to-run-part-2 The Indianapolis Mini Marathon was over the weekend and it was my time to shine (or so I thought)! After waking up at 5 AM, showering, eating a nice healthy breakfast of oatmeal and a cliff bar it was off to the mini and we got there around 6:30 ready to go! We all got in our corrals and waited for the start. There was a beautiful 15 seconds of silence for the Boston Marathon victims, which was pretty touching. Then it was go time - I was WAY back in the corrals (seriously, when I walked into my corral, I heard a man talking to another man saying "This is the corral that they call the "lucky if you finish it" corral" - real motivating, pal - real motivating!), so it was probably about 30 minutes after the race started before I actually started.  I'm pretty sure the Kenyan's were over half way done before I even left the start line!

Indianapolis Mini Marathon

The corrals, before we started

It took me a while to get around all the walkers, but once I did I felt pretty good, until I got to about oh, I don't know say half a mile. The pain that had occurred in my knee a few weeks ago came back. I powered through for the first 2 miles before I felt like I shouldn't run on it anymore, so I walked a bit. I thought about quitting, but didn't really know where I was and also wanted to finish what I had started. So I began running again - I could only manage a small amount before stopping to walk as the pain became unbearable, I kept doing this for a few miles.

Indianapolis Mini Marathon

Running on the track at speedway

It was going decent up until about mile 7, when the lipgloss I had put in the waistband of my pants, began to fall down (Is that just chapstick in your pants or are you happy to see me?!?) and I literally had to reach in my pants and get it out. Um...Embarrassing.  Good thing there weren't any camera men around when that happened! :) After mile 8 everything seemed to really drag on. This is probably because at this point I couldn't bring myself to run anymore and was hobbling along trying not to bend my knee. It was all so painful that it just made each mile drag on and on and on. Around mile 12 I almost lost it and was THIS close to crying, so I stopped for a minute to stretch. I can't even tell you how happy I was when the finish line was in my sights. I decided I needed to run the last little bit and really give it my all, so I did just that! I am SURE I have an awful face in my finishing pictures, probably looking like I was going to cry, but I don't care because I didn't give up - I finished that 13.1 miles and I got my medal!

Indianapolis Mini Marathon

The amount of trash is incredible

Honestly I can see why people love doing this event - there is entertainment all along the route.  There were bands of all sort, belly dancers, cheerleaders, people standing along the sides of the route in costumes, cheering you on and encouraging you the whole way! I really did feel a sense of together-ness! There was even a girl near the track that was holding a sign that read "Way to go Complete Strangers!" and she would yell words of encouragement as we all ran by! It was awesome! There was even the people who would say "You can do it Abby, you're doing great!" While I will admit it worried me when I realized I didn't actually know this first person who yelled my name, I remembered my name was clearly printed on my bib! Ha! I really appreciated those people who came out to encourage this kind of crazy to run 13.1 miles - you really did motivate me to try harder!

Indianapolis Mini Marathon

Chris and I after the race. He is amazing and finished in just 1 hour and 41 minutes!

Anyways, I hope my running days aren't over. I do have a Color Run at the end of May that's just a 5K - hoping my knee cooperates better than this one. I want to go back to the mini next year and try for a better time and to try and be better conditioned so I don't hurt my knee again!

Did anyone else do the mini? I want to hear your experiences too! Leave them below! -Abby

So you booked a session with me...now what? https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2013/5/so-you-booked-a-session-with-me-now-what I have a lot of last minute bookings and find that I don't always have enough time to properly fill them in on what to expect, so I decided it would be a good idea to write a little post on what to expect when you book a session with me!

1. Once you book a session with me, send me your deposit and pick a date, you will get a little welcome packet from me in your email! We will decide exactly what kind of session you'd like to have, if you want it to be a styled session or if you want me to come to your house and capture the day as it unfolds or any number of other options!

2. Clothing ideas. Many people struggle with what to wear to a photo session. Because of that, I have written this post  with examples of what you can wear. I will say that I always recommend wearing something you are and will be comfortable in! After seeing my ideas of what you can wear, you are absolutely welcome to send me picture texts of what you are thinking about for your session and I will give you feedback!

3. From there we will be in contact as much as you want leading up to your session! If you have ideas, great - send them my way, run them by me, bounce them off of me and we can come up with something fabulous and unique for your session! Want to know if I think you should style your hair a certain way? Ask me!

4. It's session time!!! I will have already scouted the area we are doing pictures (unless it's in your home, because that would be creepy!) so I will have some great ideas as to where we should shoot. I will arrive early so you don't have to wait on me and we will be ready for a rockin session. Most of my sessions last around an hour, but I am not a stickler on time. If we get enough pictures in 45 minutes, cool, we can be done early - but if it takes a little longer than an hour for me to feel like I've got what I need, I will stick around until I feel we've got what you paid for! I find that having this kind of free flowing session really allows for everyone to get comfortable with me and with the camera!

5. By now we've had a great time hanging out, playing and taking some pictures and our session has come to an end. If we didn't incorporate it into our session I recommend going to grab some ice cream to top off a lovely day!

6. The session is over and I am sure you are already missing me and DYING to know how your pictures turned out! Don't you worry your pretty little mind, I will be posting at least 1 preview on Facebook! My typical turn around time is 2-4 weeks. During wedding season it may take closer to 6 weeks. Have no fear, it's just because I am enhancing each image and making sure it is perfect for you and yours!

7. Once the images are done you will receive an email from me with a link to a private, password protected gallery. This is for you to view your images and decide what you would like to purchase! I offer print packages as well as the option to buy some or all of the digital negatives from your session!

8. After you've decided what images you would like, all you have to do is wait! Most prints that are purchased are received in the mail within less than a week.

9. Hang your pictures and admire your new artwork that's gracing your walls. You are beautiful, your family is fantastic - and now you have great memories to help remind you of that!

10. What?! You think you're done now? No way! Refer me to your friends and get a kick back from me for anyone who books me! You can read about my referral program here!

Indianapolis Photographer - What should I wear to my session? https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2013/4/what-should-i-wear-to-my-session I get asked this question frequently about what to wear to a photo session, so I thought I would elaborate on that and give my clients something to reference!  If you want to see some outfit ideas, you can visit my pinterest board that I've made specifically for inspiration

1. Pick out something that you are comfortable in. If you wear dresses all the time - put on a dress! If you're more of a jeans kind of gal, wear jeans! There is nothing more uncomfortable than wearing something that you don't feel yourself in and TRUST ME, it will come across in the pictures if you aren't being yourself!

This would be good for a family of 4 - coordinated but not TOO much!

2. If you have more than 1 person going to be in pictures for your shoot, pick about 3-4 colors to base your outfits around!  It doesn't need to be matchy-matchy to look good! Being coordinated looks much better than matchy!  You can even go with a theme type of session like pastels if you want!

3. Don't wear a shirt that has a really busy pattern on it. Trust me. You just don't want that!

Family of 4 festive shoot

4. Try not to wear sleeveless. There are some cases (like a cute dress) in which this is ok, but I would say the majority look better with even a cap sleeve!

5. Layer. Layers are almost always cute, and if you do decide to wear sleeveless, it can give you variety. Bring a cardigan to the session if you aren't sure and we can play around with different looks.

This would be really cute for an engagement session, with outfit change!

6. If you choose a longer session with me and want to change outfits part way through, I recommend 1 outfit being dressier and 1 outfit being more laid back so we can get different feelings from the pictures! Heck, you can even change your hair if you want!

Basically, you want everyone's personality to come across in the pictures without having to all wear the same color shirt and pants. You also don't want to look like 1 person stepped out of the 70's, 1 person just came from a pageant and 1 person just came from the beach!

This would be super cute for a summer shoot

I hope these tips help and for anyone who hires me for a session I will be in contact with you every step of the way, you can even send me pictures of outfits you are thinking about wearing! My goal is to help you feel confident before even coming to the shoot! -Abby

Mother's Day - not just another Hallmark holiday! https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2013/4/mothers-day---not-just-another-hallmark-holiday Today I want to talk to you all about Mothers.  Mother's Day is coming up in just a few weeks and I think it's time we all start thinking about what we can do to show them how much we really care! I have a hard time coming up with what to get for my mom, especially if I can't be there to celebrate her greatness on Mother's Day. You know, Mom's give up a lot for their children, they laugh when their children are happy, cry when they are sad, are brave when they are hurt and know how to get the stain out of just about anything. They help to mold us into the fine adults we are now and that we are still to become. And yet, when you ask them what they'd like for a holiday dedicated just to them they typically answer with "Oh, I just want my family to be healthy and happy" or when we were younger we used to get "I just want my girls to get along!" Come on, Mom! I know there must be something else that you want! A nice robe, some fuzzy slippers, a home cooked meal?! Give me something to go off of!

Because many Moms are also stubborn about what to get them, I thought I would give y'all some ideas!

1. One year we got our mom the gift of a photo session - I can't actually think of a better gift to give her. She is ALWAYS wanting updated family pictures of us, so this was perfect in many ways! If you are interested in booking a family session (or a mommy and me session) just contact me - I offer gift cards as well if you don't know when you want to do it yet!

2. Breakfast in bed - who wouldn't love breakfast in bed? It's a nice surprise, especially if you go really early and are extremely quiet while making the food so she really has no idea that she's about to get delicious food in her belly!

3. Wine & Canvas - This may be only an Indianapolis thing, but we have fun classes where you learn how to paint a painting from an expert and drink wine at the same time! Is there anything better?!

Indianapolis Family Photographer

4. Hiking and a Picnic - This is for those who have really active moms! Take her to a state park she's never been to before and go for a small hike! When you're done surprise her with a picnic that includes her favorite foods (seriously - I think being surprised with food is ALWAYS a good idea! ha!)

5. Spa Day - This might be the Mother of all Mother's Day gifts! You can either get your Mom a gift card for a local spa so she can go on her own, or you can plan a day to go and have a spa day together!

6. Offer to clean her home - Some Mothers may not like this gift, but if you think your mom would, why not offer to vacuum, scrub the toilets and clean the dishes?

7. DIY - Make her something! Before Pinterest was even a glimmer in someone's eye (I think I was in 6th grade maybe) I made my mom a santa face using an old light bulb! Man I was creative (This was obviously for Christmas, NOT Mother's Day)!! Haha, but seriously..we all have pinterest at our disposal, search for a cute craft and make her something OR you could plan to make something with your mom - mom's love crafting, too!

8. Get her something she won't buy herself but would enjoy - this could be a book that she doesn't know about, a steak dinner, a vacation (if you have that kind of money) or simply a hair appointment. Think of what she would love and do it for her!

I hope this gives you some good ideas as to what you can do for your mom! Let me know if you have any other good ideas in the comments section below! -Abby

Confessions of a non-runner trying to run https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2013/4/confessions-of-a-non-runner-trying-to-run Many of you know, but some of you may not, that I have (stupidly) decided to run the mini marathon in Indianapolis. After much encouragement from my boyfriend (who runs it every year) and a friend (who said she would do it with me...but then got pregnant and isn't doing it anymore. Ha!) I bought the ticket to run do it. All the while thinking "Why am I paying to run?!" The mini marathon is 13.1 miles...up until I started training for the mini I had only ran without stopping for about...oh, I don't know... .5 miles. hahaha...POINT FIVE MILES!  It's embarrassing, I know, but I wanted to set a goal for myself and get some good cardio in! I don't run. I don't exercise. I am short of breath when I walk up a flight of stairs. I adore the couch, and sitting and editing pictures and watching TV shows. It's bad people! What makes it worse is that I am naturally skinny (thank you mom!), so I don't get to see results like loosing a few lbs.

I started training slowly. For the first few weeks I was just trying to get up to running 1 mile, so I would run/walk on the treadmill until I could work my way up to running 1 mile without stopping. Let me tell you, it is such a mental battle for me. I will make a goal like "Run to that third mailbox and then you can stop" then when I get to the second mail box I'm like "Meh...close enough!" and I stop! I'm tellin ya people, mental is 90% of the battle for me.  If you could only hear what goes on in my head. It's almost like arguing with me calling myself names trying to motivate myself to keep going!

(My new running shoes!)

I digress, after I did the 1 mile I went for 3 miles a few weeks later when it was finally warm enough to run outside. Sure I had to stop and walk for a few minutes, but I still finished it in 30 minutes! I felt on fire...I couldn't believe I had accomplished that! The weekend after that I went for 5 miles, and did it! Again I had to walk a little in there, but I kept it steady at a 10 minute mile - Go me!!  Then something happened...the weather took a turn and it rained 3 days in a row. On top of that, the day the rain came our water heater broke. It was broken for 4 days and the only way it could work is if you had enough muscles (which I don't) to turn it on with a wrench. Well, I certainly didn't want to have to wait for my bf to get home to turn it on, and I certainly didn't want to sit in my sweat until he got home...so that was enough for me to give up running for 4 straight days. FOUR DAYS PEOPLE! That's all it took to loose everything I had built up.

When I tried to run again I could only get in about 2 miles - and some muscle behind my knee hurt about half way through. What was happening to me? Where did my months of training go? I still don't know, as I haven't been able to do a longer run yet. I plan on trying for a longer run tomorrow morning, and am praying it all magically comes back to me!  Wish me luck! -Abby

Wedding Wednesday: Cake Edition - April 17th https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2013/4/wedding-wednesday-cake-edition---april-17th

I decided this week I am going to choose a concentrated area of weddings for a few of these Wedding Wednesdays and this Wednesday I want to concentrate on CAKES!  I love to see what people can do with cakes these days, it's such a fun way to personalize a wedding! See below for some ideas on cakes for your reception!

For a soft feminine feel, this cake is beautiful and one of my faves - a ruffle cake! Click here for the source

Looking for something different than just a cake? How about some cake pops! Click here for the source

I think this cake is so cute! A bunch of letters but the only ones that can be seen from afar is "LOVE"! Click here for the source

Ribbons on cakes are so cute, and I love the texture of this cake! Click here for the link

I like to call this one the zipper cake! Even though it isn't zippers, I think it looks incredible!  Click here for the source

To me, this is a mix between lace and wood cut outs. I imagine a lot of hard work went into making this one. Elegance is the word that comes to mind! Click here for the source

Well, I think that's enough for my cake edition today! I'm sure I'll have another down the line. Which one is your favorite? -Abby

Indianapolis Portrait Photographer - Holliday Park https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2013/4/indianapolis-portrait-photographer I asked one of my brides for this summer to do a little modeling session for me. It was the last (I think) snow of the season about a week and a half ago and I wanted to shoot in it. Unfortunately, much of it melted and we didn't necessarily get the looks we were going for. We still had a good time though and I soooo look forward to shooting her and R's wedding in June!

30th Birthday Party - Beer Tasting Event https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2013/3/30th-birthday-party---beer-tasting-event Hey y'all! Sorry I've been so quiet on here lately. I have been prepping for my boyfriend's 30th birthday party for the past TWO months! My lovely sister sent me this idea to have a beer tasting party and I took it from there! I spent every evening before he got home from work trying to make signs, design the invite, make games and make props for a photo booth! I was spending every spare moment I had making stuff for it and it all came together well!  Basically the gist is that each person/couple would bring a 6 pack from one of the following categories: Indian Pale Ale, Stout, Wheat or Seasonal beer and I provided all the food and non-alcoholic beverages! It was such a good time and I am so thankful for everyone who helped me along the way and who was able to come! Check out some pictures below...please don't mind the quality, I had to use a point and shoot since my camera was set up for the photo booth!

30th Birthday Party

Got those beer tubs from a personalization store online! Aren't the cute?!

30th Birthday Party This is the little photo booth I set up...I HAND CUT all of those props and glued them to sticks with a hot glue gun (I found all the props for free online. I can get you the link if anyone needs it!) The background is actually a paint drop cloth that I got a lowes :) ha!

30th Birthday Party These are a little hard to see, but on the left is 1 of 4 picture hangers we made to hang up around the sun room! His mom was sneaky and got them to me without Chris finding out!

On the right are pictures of his friends who couldn't make it. I had them all send me a little saying or quote they wanted to say and I made a little picture/bubble quote for each of them and hung them up for him to read so it felt like they were there!

30th Birthday Party Here is a suit jacket I got from good will and decorated and then a LARGE beer mug that I decorated!

30th Birthday Party HA! This never gets old! It's a picture I had printed of Chris and put a nice little mustache on him...makes me laugh every time I see it :D

30th Birthday Party I kind of copied this from a 30th birthday party I found online...I am decent in Illustrator so I was able to recreate it and then get it printed at Kinkos! It's a rate your beer card from (1)"I would rather drink my own piss" to (5) "Liquid Gold"....there were some pretty funny ones left over after the party of what people wrote in the comments section!

30th Birthday Party This here is chocolate cookies with one in the shape of a 3 and 0, a s'mores center that I made with supplies from michales, and some chocolate eclair that my sisters made with a lovely confetti 30!

30th Birthday Party Chris went to IU, so it's only fitting that our friend made him some IU brownies!

30th Birthday Party Here are some of my fave photo booth pics from the night!

30th Birthday Party If you guys should know anything about me, it's that I love to bring REAL LIFE props into photo booths. This is just a perfect example! (Yes, this is Chris and I! and YES, I am giving him a piggy back ride up there in the right hand corner)

30th Birthday Party The last picture of the night!!

Hope you all enjoyed this! If you have any questions let me know and I will try to respond in the comments section! -Abby

I have been trying to write this blog for over a month now, but haven't been able to exactly find the words that I want to say. I'm still not sure that I will be able to, but I am going to try.

About two years ago my grandpa passed away. He was just shy of 99 years old and (quite literally) the light of our lives. He had a great personality and while he might not have had the best short term memory towards the end, he could still tell better stories (about how his family had 2 horses they used to get around before cars were around, about where he went during his service as an army man and his many travels well into his 90s, etc) than anyone of us. He always knew who we were (not everyone can say that as their grandparents get older) and lit up almost as much as we did when we visited with him.  He was more ornery than I ever thought one person could be and would still flirt with women and make them blush up to his last days!

We always tried to take pictures with him or of him, which of course he hated and would often make what we called "Popey faces", but I found that if you tickled his knee juuuuussst right that you could get a real smile out of him! We had talked about getting professional pictures done, but by that time he was already in a wheel chair and we weren't sure how it would work at an  assisted living place. What I would give to have professional pictures of him and him with us...him in his element, his home that he built 60 some years ago, his home where he loved to garden and loved to sit in his front window to read and watch people. His home where we would go for sleepovers when we were little and he would make us jello desserts that we thought were so amazing (We're not just talking jello, people - we're talking masterpieces - similar to this)! To have professional pictures done where all these memories were made together with him and my long deceased grandma is something I can only dream about. I wish we would have thought to do pictures before he was in assisted living so that we could have some amazing photos. Heck, I kick myself for not taking up photography sooner so could have gotten him in his element!  Sure I can wear his old sweat pants or drink from his old coffee mug, but nothing captures his soul and who he was as good as the pictures we have!

I am not trying to guilt you into hiring me for pictures...I am just trying to tell you that sometimes even though you may think you have ample time (and somehow we still thought that, even though he was so old, he seemed invincible) , you never know what can happen or when. You don't want to wait until you're to the point of "Man, I wish we wouldn't of waited to do pictures", like we were.  Of course I LOVE the pictures I have of him, but I wish I had more. I wish that someone in our family didn't always have to be out of the picture to get it.

So, go ahead,  get out there and take pictures! Do them yourself, hire someone to do them, but whatever you do, be sure to take lots of them! Because even though I may be a little misty-eyed just thinking about how much I miss my gramps (Ok, fine, you caught me...I'm flat out crying), looking at these pictures reminds me of so many wonderful things about him and all the great times we were lucky enough to share together! -Abby

Kickstarter Featured Project of the Month - Artrageous https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2013/2/kickstarter-project-of-the-month---artrageous Happy Tuesday everyone! I have decided to start featuring a project from Kickstarter each month (if you don't know what that is, it's where entrepreneurs raise money to help make a product - you donate money, and in return, you get something back from the project; as small as a thank you, or sometimes the product they are trying to produce or more)! I will choose a project I think is fun, awesome or just simply believe in to feature each month!  As an artist myself, I think it's really important to support others...especially when there are so many great ideas out there!

This month's project comes from someone based right here in Indianapolis, and it's called ARTRAGEOUS! The goal of the project is to create videos explaining art in a fun and exciting way so that kids from all over can watch it and learn from it. Heck, I watched the first video (see the link, it's on there) and thought it was so cool and I can see why it would be beneficial to kids. In an age where schools are trying to get rid of art and music classes, I think it's important that we do something to make sure they still get that part of their lives fulfilled and this is a fabulous way to do so!

So head on over here and check out Artrageous! Unfortunately I am a little behind in finding this project so there is only less than 16 hours left to donate, but I still think it's a great cause and wanted to spread the word!  -Abby

P.S. These are my thoughts completely and I am in no way being sponsored to share my opinion on this, nor am I affiliated with Artrageous.

We had a 3 month old, a 4 year old, an 18 year old, the parents and grandmother! We did the session at their house in Zionsville, and even though we didn't have great ambient light, we made it work!

Enjoy these pictures - and please note - the mom JUST had that baby 3 months ago...she looks AMAZING!

Indianapolis Family Lifestyle Photographer // an in-home session https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2013/1/indianapolis-family-lifestyle-photographer---an-in-home-session I met up with the K Family on Saturday morning for an in-home family lifestyle session in Indianapolis! It was a shoot to commemorate little Henry's first year of life. While he is shy, I like to think that I was a bit of a child whisperer! Although a few times he did point at me and then point towards the door, in my head it was just his way of saying "Welcome!" haha!  We hung out for about 2 hours while I snapped pictures of him playing, reading, eating and even squirrel watching! In the middle of it all we went outside for some family photos, which worked out well because it was almost 50 degrees (in January!!)

Let me tell you one last thing, Henry is one lucky little boy - he has amazing parents and is so obviously loved! Happy First Birthday Henry! Here's to many many more wonderful days on this earth!

Indianapolis Couples Photographer // Ross & Katrina https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2013/1/indianapolis-couples-photographer---ross-katrina I got the message a little over a month ago that Ross wanted to surprise his girlfriend, Katrina, with a photography session for Christmas. Now, I don't know about y'alls significant other's, but most wouldn't do this for their girlfriends - he must REALLY love her!  He actually listened to her when she said she wished they had more nice pictures of them together - kudos, Ross - kudos!

I met up with them the Friday after Christmas in downtown Indianapolis! I found out that Katrina lives in Seattle, so they have a long distance relationship. Long distance or not, this couple was SO much fun to get to know and to hang out with for an hour! They were up for anything, and even had a snowball fight!  And, I think as you can see below, their chemistry was palpable! The only thing that would have made it better (and I was kind of hoping for) would be a surprise engagement.... maybe next year :)

A little reminder for the upcoming year https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2012/12/a-little-reminder-for-the-upcoming-year "Before we pop the champagne and celebrate the new year, to stop, and reflect on the year that has gone by, to remember both our triumphs and our missteps, our promises made and broken, the times we opened ourselves up to great adventures... or closed ourselves down for fear of getting hurt, because that's what new year's all about,  getting another chance, a chance to forgive. To do better, to do more, to give more, to love more, and to stop worrying about what if... and start embracing what will be. So when that ball drops at midnight, and it will drop, let's remember to be nice to each other, kind to each other, and not just tonight but all year long."

Indianapolis Family Photographer // Steffen Family https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2012/12/indianapolis-family-photographer---steffen-family I have had the pleasure to take pictures of this little guy (and sometimes his parents) on 3 separate occasions and I feel lucky to have been able to see him grow into such a handsome little man! Carter was a little cranky because he didn't take his usual nap, but we had fun anyways - especially when he saw some cows and some chickens running around (he happily said do do everytime he saw a chicken since they say cock a doodle do! haha!) He also likes cats...which makes me like him even more - you'll see below :)

Indianapolis Photographer // Indianapolis at night - Christmas Edition https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2012/12/indianapolis-photographer---indianapolis-at-night---christmas-edition I've been wanting to do this for weeks! My initial plan was to get up at 4 AM and go downtown to a deserted downtown Indianapolis and be able to stand in the streets and have basically no one in my way of the shots I wanted to get! What really happened was my sister and I found ourselves downtown at 11:30 PM and we decided to go out then and shoot some! She was an awesome assistant and froze her lil bum off with me! I think it worked out pretty well and possibly as good as it would have had we gotten up at 4 AM! We stayed out for about 2 hours and made good use of our time downtown.

Merry Christmas from Abby Hacker Photography! May you enjoy your Holiday as much as I'm enjoying mine!

She is dear to my heart and brings a smile to pretty much everyone who meets her! At her session we decided to do a cake smash which is one of my favorite things to watch! It always cracks me up to see how children go at the cake for the first time! Enjoy the mess and the fun below!

Indianapolis Photographer // Meteor Shower https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2012/12/indianapolis-photographer---meteor-shower I just wanted to write a quick post about the meteor shower last night! We wanted to see ourselves a meteor shower and the city lights around our house just weren't going to do it for us, so, my boyfriend and I drove out as far as we could without being too far away from our house (so about 30 minutes) until we hit some corn fields! Parked the truck right off the rode and grabbed our comforter and snuggled together in the back of his truck bed and stared up at the sky until we saw our first meteor! I hate to sound like an amateur star gazer, but I was SO PUMPED after I saw one for the first time!! The news article I read said it could take up to 30 minutes for your eyes to adjust and before you might even see a meteor. We saw one within 2 minutes of being settled in! BEAT THAT news people!  I will tell you, I was unable to capture any meteors in camera, but I did get some OK star shots. I also learned I really need to get a shutter release remote control so thatI can leave the shutter open for longer and to get some meteors the next time! I can't wait for the next one to get back out there and try again to capture the meteors. It is seriously amazing to think there are particles out there just flying past earth as they burn up. It really is a magical world we live in!

Indianapolis Photographer Indianapolis Photography When we got home I was FREEZING, Tired and ready for bed, but I was so happy that we made the effort to drive out to the "country" and see those meteors. We saw 38 in total (in just about an hours time!). I know the pictures aren't so great, but I had a great time - hoping it's warmer the next time a meteor shower comes along! -Abby

Indianapolis Engagement Photographer // Ben and Kim https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2012/12/indianapolis-engagement-photographer---ben-and-kim Kim contacted me a while ago about doing an engagement session. I was so excited because I absolutely LOVE shooting couples, especially ones that are recently engaged and have that glow about them :)  Kim's Fiancé, Ben, is a farmer so it only made sense that we met at Trader's Point Creamery to do the session.

Just a little background - Ben asked Kim to marry him back in October...by carving out "Will you marry me?" in pumpkins - that right there is dedication! Can you imagine how much his hands must have been cramping after that?! Way to go Ben!

I had such a great time getting to know this couple and I hope you can see the love they have shining through in these pictures. Even thought Ben doesn't love getting his picture taken (what guy really does?) I think he did a great job and Kim was so happy the whole time and has adorable dimples it was hard for me to not take a good picture of her!

Indianapolis Portrait Photographer // Lifestyle session - Kuhn Family https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2012/12/indianapolis-portrait-photographer---lifestyle-session---kuhn-family I have been wanting to do a Lifestyles session for a while now! I had the perfect subjects for just that! The Kuhn Family was gracious enough to be my first Lifestyle session where I spent a few hours with them in their home while they do everyday things...you know, play with toys, take naps, make lunch, decorate the tree, etc! I had SUCH a great day with them and love this session so much. I love it so much that I didn't send them the pictures yet...I wanted them to see the pictures on my blog first, in storyboard form, to see the day from my eyes, a complete outside view!

Good Morning Love bug!

Time to play!

Why is he so cute?! Melts my heart!!

Bath time! His mommy kept making him laugh with a toy that squirted water on him!

Then he got wrapped up in an awesome cookie monster towel!...and then stared at himself in the mirror with his daddy!

They do this cute and hilarious thing where they fan his mouth so he sounds like an indian! So cute :)

Somebody loves his food!

Chillin, watchin some awesome baby TV!

Then he legitimately fell asleep in daddy's arms after some hardcore rocking in the chair!

Hey there smiley!

Putting his first ornament on the tree!

Kennett was mesmerized by ornaments!

Little family picture action!

Thank you guys so much for having me spend the day with you! I love you guys - and your pictures are now in your gallery ready for you to view! I hope you love them as much as I do.  Good luck deciding what to frame.... -Abby

Indianapolis Wedding Photographer // James and Taylor https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2012/11/indianapolis-wedding-photographer---james-and-taylor Is it ironic that this couples names make up James Taylor?! Perhaps, but they are such a cute couple I didn't even notice that until I typed the title to this blog!  I shot this wedding with the lovely and wonderful Molly Connor Photography on a gorgeous day. While it was a little windy outside, it was still a sunny and beautiful day.

My favorite moment from the whole thing was the relief you could sense once the couple saw each other during their First Look (this is pretty much always my favorite part of every wedding). It's like they were tense up until they were able to be together and know that this day was about the two of them and everything leading up to that point was going to come to a head in the form of a beautiful ceremony where they exchanged vows!

Try not to tear up when you see the happiness below!

Hey there little cutie! (is that not the most adorable children's coat you've ever seen!?)

See what I'm talking about? Such a sweet moment of relief!

Also, she has TEN bridesmaids...that has got to be some kind of record, right?! (unless you count that movie 27 Dresses...yes, I just referenced a Katherine Heigel movie. Sad, but true.)

Fun sock alert!!

Technology is so present in weddings today!

Congratulations to you both! May you have a super happy life together!! So happy I got to be a part of your day. -Abby

Indianapolis Photographer // Noble of Indiana - Raising the Stakes https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2012/11/indianapolis-photographer---noble-raising-the-stakes Earlier this month I was asked if I would be the photographer for a charity event that Noble was having. Noble is a great charity that helps those with down syndrome get jobs that are perfect for their skills! It was such a great event and I was so touched by their speaker telling how Noble has helped to get her a lasting job and how much that has impacted her life.  It's charities like these that I enjoy donating my talents to, and I was happy to do so for Noble!

The night was capped off with everyone playing casino games, listening to music and having fun in a photo booth! Noble was able to raise $55,000 that night! What a great event...thank you to everyone who came out and donated! I know your money will go to good use!

Indianapolis Engagement Photographer // Ryan & Cassie https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2012/11/indianapolis-engagement-photographer---mcmaster Ryan and I have been friends since college. He's the kind of friend you can watch Napoleon Dynamite with over and over and neither of you ever get sick of it and you still have a great time! After college, Ryan met Cassie. He was lucky enough to steal her heart (Go Ryan! I am happy you scooped her up before someone else did) and they make such a wonderful couple! They came to me over the summer and asked if I would be interested in photographing their wedding and I am so happy that they did! We started out with engagement pictures and met up at the IMA where they had one of their first dates (a picnic - how cute!) and they proceeded to show me that apparently Ryan was a male model at some point and Cassie is a natural!

I can't wait to celebrate with them in June, but until then, please enjoy some of their engagement session images!

Thank you guys for being such awesome and easy going clients! I can't wait to photograph your wedding!

Urban Exploration // Northwest Indiana https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2012/11/urban-exploration I don't know exactly what it is, but I LOVE urban exploration and something ignites within me when I get to go! While I was up north visiting my parents and doing a couple of shoots, I went exploring with my friend Keith. We had a great time catching up and checking out old abandoned places - there are too many to share in just 1 post, so I'll just have to do another some other time!

I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I enjoyed taking them and exploring new found places!  The doll below is by far the creepiest thing I've seen in a long time!

Indianapolis Family Photographer // Fulk Family https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2012/11/indianapolis-family-photographer---fulk-family Oh how I love Fall!  The colors are beautiful, the temperature is ah-mah-zing and everyone's spirits seem to be high! So it's no wonder why this seems to be everyone's favorite time to take pictures! I couldn't wait to get started on my Fall Sessions this year and they were all awesome. The sessions started on one of the windiest days of the year, but it seemed like the wind Gods were with us that day and it didn't seem to affect the session too much!

We met at Holliday Park on a beautiful Sunday evening, grabbed some pumpkins and got down to business! Enjoy this beautiful family's images below and try not to melt when you see the little one's blue eyes!

Thank you for inviting me to take pictures of your beautiful family! -Abby

Fly with me Friday // St. Louis https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2012/10/fly-with-me-friday---st-louis It's time for another installment of FLY WITH ME FRIDAY!!!! I know you've missed it, so I brought it back with a place that isn't TOO far from Indianapolis: St. Louis, Missouri!

Around 245 miles and about 4 hours from Indy, this is one location that's easy to visit with tons of free activities for anyone - I went 2 times in one year...that's how cool it is (Or maybe I had already gone with my boyfriend and my family wanted to have a little family vacay there too, that might be why I went 2 times in one year, but that's neither here nor there!). Below I will discuss some of the stuff there is to do!

MISSOURI BOTANICAL GARDENS

This place is one of the places you have to pay to get into, but trust me - it's awesome! Beautiful grounds with Chihuly Art scattered around! Tickets are $12 to get in, but you could spend hours walking around this place!

There is also a Butterfly House at the Botanical Gardens, this is $6 admission and you can have butterflies land on you! It's pretty neat!

GRANT'S FARM

I don't know if y'all know it or not, but St. Louis is home of Budweiser! They have tours of their factory, which I went on (AND are FREE and you get 2 free beers!), but even better than that is Grant's Farm! They have animals you can pet, you get to see all the cool old Budweiser stuff, see the Budweiser horses also known as Clysdales, which are beautiful and big creatures, and you can top the day off with 2 free beer's, thank you very much!

Anyone from Indy will appreciate this: Here come the mummies! (This was actually at Grant's Farm!)

St. Louis ZOO

This zoo is actually free, all you have to do is pay something like $15 for parking - which isn't bad, because you can have 10 people in your car and only pay $15 for everyone! It's huge and there are lots of animals! One of my favorite zoo's I've been to!

LAUMEIER SCULPTURE PARK

This is an outdoor sculpture park with lots of huge sculptures and art installations all around. It's completely free and a great activity!

CITY GARDEN

This is such a cool "garden" - it's right downtown in the middle of everything and has a bunch of art. I think St. Louis has a really great art scene!!

ST. LOUIS ARCH

No trip to St. Louis would be complete without a trip to the Arch! Of course you have to take a ride up in one of the legs of the arch, in some tiny ball that you're supposed to trust, to see the top of it, but what's the big deal about that!?  (I had a little freak out because in our ball was some little kids that were like "What if this drops on our way up?"...thank you little kid for voicing my concerns!)

And these are from the top: Trust me, if you're claustrophobic, you are going to feel it up here! But it is pretty neat, and I'm glad I can say I've done it!

Thanks for traveling with me! Since you're already here, why don't you  just it the "Add  comment" button below and leave some love or share with your friends on facebook if you enjoy this series! -Abby

Megan & Billy // Indianapolis Wedding Photographer https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2012/10/megan-billy---indianapolis-wedding-photographer This is my second wedding that I got to shoot with Molly Connor! I just might be addicted, because I love shooting with her! This wedding was on Labor Day weekend and held at The Sanctuary on Penn, downtown. It's a really cool old church that has been redone to be a wedding venue. It looks very rustic and is great for pictures! The bride and groom: Megan and Billy, The day: a little overcast, sometimes sunny, but unfortunately, a downpour when we went to take pics on the monument, The night: a BLAST! This couple was so gorgeous and so in love on their wedding day, it was awesome! Because even though many things didn't go their way leading up to their wedding day, they always went with it and just enjoyed their special day and were in the moment, as every couple should be! Please enjoy the enormous amount of gorgeous you are about to see below:

Wedding Details // Indianapolis Wedding Photographer https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2012/9/wedding-details---indianapolis-wedding-photographer Oh wedding details....the things that make each wedding unique to the couple! Sometimes they are specific enough that you can see the personality of the couple in the details. Basically, I LOVE wedding details!  Here are a few of my favorite details from a wedding I recently second shoot at a few weeks ago!

Blythe Wedding // Indianapolis Wedding Photographer https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2012/9/blythe-wedding---indianapolis-wedding-photographer I had the pleasure of being a second shooter at the Blythe wedding with Molly Connor Photography a little over a month ago. Sometimes a couple just has this special bond, and they radiate when they are together. This was one of those couples. They were so excited to be marrying one another and they were practically in a bubble by themselves all day!  It seemed like they didn't even notice that anyone else was there with them. They might as well have been on a mountain all alone getting married! And the way the groom looked at his bride...well, that's something every girl should have. Congratulations to them and I wish them many years of happiness, which I am sure they will have! So enjoy the images below as you see what I mean it seems like they were in their own La La Land

This, my friends, is what La La Land looks like!

This is how family should be....SILLY!

30 year Anniversary // Couples Mini Session https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2012/8/30-year-anniversary---couples-mini-session When I was younger I could always tell my parents were in love. They had that (seemingly) annoying, over-the -top kind of love where it makes you wince as a kid. They'd give eachother kisses openly, share their feelings in front of us and just be sickeningly in love (I'm sorry, but that's just how you feel when you're little...I mean, boys had COOTIES!!). Then when I was a teenager, I saw them as a united front...not the kind of parents where you could ask one parent and they'd say "no" and then you could go ask the other and then you'd get a "yes" (and SCORE! You've gotten away with something you knew you shouldn't!!...yea, that was never me) because if I asked my dad if I could do something he'd say "did you ask your mother?" knowing full well what she would say. I found it to be frustrating back when I was trying to be sneaky. It was rare (if ever) that I got to pull a fast one on my parents! These days, I am grateful for the example that they've set for me on how a relationship should be. One that holds respect and love and cherishes every aspect of the relationship (my how views change as we grow up).

Here are some tips from my mom (Hi Mom....didn't know I was going to share these online, did you?) on what you can do to help keep your marriage or relationship going strong: "Some major, simple things are the most obvious. Goes without saying.....Love each other. More importantly, genuinely like each other.  Some of the biggest things, simply put, are honesty, respect, encouragement, support, communication about the big things and even little things, common goals, truly enjoying each other's company, and a good sense of humor. Mutual [Religious] beliefs are important too. Religious beliefs can sometimes be a deal breaker. Neither of us is perfect, nor do we expect the other to be perfect. We each have our hurdles to overcome and we accept that of each other. We have always just "known" that we were going to stay married, so that is the way we have approached it. This is a long term deal, not a short term deal."

She had more to say, but I thought I'd give you all the short version :) I know some of those seem obvious, but it is sometimes the obvious things that are the hardest to do and we just don't think about!

I digress, this weekend my sisters and I surprised our parents and took them to Chicago to see The Blue Man Group! Of course while in the windy city, I had to take 5 minutes (Ok, maybe 7 because we almost got ran over by a car) to take a few pictures in a nice alley!  Enjoy and Happy 30th Anniversary mom and dad! Thank you for setting such a good example for us on what we deserve out of a partner!

Random fact: My mom wasn't looking to date when my dad was pursuing her....so he came back to where she worked every night and (like a gentleman) walked her out to her car at the end of her shift until she finally agreed to go on a date with him.

Random Fact: One of my parents is 6 years older than the other (What are you crazy? I can't tell you which one...a daughter can't reveal her mother's true age!), proving that age doesn't really matter!

Random Fact: When my dad proposed to my mom, he proposed with a RING POP! (Don't worry, he had the real ring in the bag with the ring pop, but my mom thought that was it. ha!)

Random Fact: My parents were told they could never have kids, and they had 3 (the first were twins)...somehow love conquers all!

Personal Post // Don't forget about YOU https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2012/7/personal-post---dont-forget-about-you When I was in kindergarten, I decided that I wanted to cut my hair....my beautiful L-O-N-G (butt length) hair. I came to my mom one day and told her I wanted to cut it. She asked me if I was sure and I promptly and most adult like told her that it was my hair and I would do what I wanted with it. So, with that, my mom cut a bunch of my hair off, and we threw it out in the backyard so some birds could make a nest with it (side note...do birds actually use hair to make birds nest or is it all a bunch of crock to make a little child feel like they're doing something special?).

The point of my story is to show that when we are little and we don't yet know how to get in the way of our happiness, we make choices that will make us happy...we don't think about the consequences (heck, I didn't used to think that if I cut my hair real short I'd look like a boy...but I sure do now! haha), we just do what makes us happy in the moment. So...this last week I decided to do stuff that I wanted to do. I took off last Wednesday...Crazy right?? I never use my vacation days unless I am going somewhere...I like to make them count! But I've been gone the last 7 weekends and was CRAVING some time at home. So I decided that was the best use of my vacation day, and let me tell you it was pure bliss! Caught up on some TV shows, cleaned, made Chocolate Peanut Butter covered banana's - yes, they are as good as they sound - and just plain ole relaxed. That's. Where. It. Is. AT!  Then, over the weekend I went camping with my best friend, back to the place we went camping when we went in 4th grade (Shout out: Hey Katie!) ...it was an amazing time and we decided to go on a little photo walk! It felt so good to just take pictures for myself.

Sometimes as photographers we get caught up in taking images for the wrong reasons...not because we are passionate about what we are photographing. We've all been there, we need to build our portfolio, or maybe we need money, or maybe we are trying to impress other photogs with our images. But sometimes, sometime you just need to shoot for yourself...do something unpaid and follow where your heart takes you! It may sound silly, but it can really bring out something in you that you've been missing and inspire you to do something completely new with your next paid session. With that, I'll get off my soapbox, but it's just something to think about! Here are some pics from the photo walk!

Crown Point Family Photography // Bagwell Family https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2012/7/crown-point-family-photography---bagwell-family Ok guys, I don't know if you're ready for the amount of cute in this post, but I sure hope you are! I had the pleasure of photographing the Bagwell's for their second session! The girls have grown so much since I've last seen them! Kacie is now going on 1 year old and Kylie is 3!! Where has the time gone?! (Ha! I sound like their mom)

Oye. This family is just too cute! Brittany and Josh make such great parents and obviously cute babies!

They brought a bubble machine along with them and the girls LOVED it! Heck, I wanted to put my camera down and play a little too!

Kacie is walking now! Last time I saw her she was just 1 month old...might I also say that I adore these outfits?

These beautiful girls have the bluest eyes I think I've ever seen...don't you agree?

I just love this photo. I was a daddy's girl and wish I had a few more pictures like this from when I was little!

Mommy and Kylie picking walnuts off the trees!

Then it was time for the CAKE SMASH!! Oh how I love Cake Smashes! The first time the little one gets to taste all the goodness of cake!

She wasted NO TIME getting all frosting'd up!

Oh hey there, messy foot!

She also kept wanting to share cake with everyone! What a little sweetheart!

Kacie is also one of the most stylish babies I've seen...I mean, look at that diaper cover! I think that image is fitting for the last image in the bunch...The end :)

Thank you, Bagwell's, for letting me photograph such precious moments! I can't wait until I see you guys again!  -Abby

Quinceañera // Leandra Wimmer https://gallery.abbyhackerphotography.com/blog/2012/7/quincea-era---leandra-wimmer I don't even know how to start this post, because I can't find enough words to say how AWESOME it was to be able to photograph this Quinceañera! I felt like I truly knew the family because of how great they treated me the entire night and I can't thank them enough for that! With that said, let's get to it! We'll start with some images of Leadra, simply because...it was HER day! :)

That's right! It's her day, she'll sit on the car if she wants to! haha

I was so jealous of her dress! It looks just like Belle's from Beauty and the Beast but in blue instead of yellow!

Seriously...she is just too gorgeous.

Aww...Family!

They are one of the handsomest families I've seen!  (doesn't the sky look crazy? It was an almost stormy day!)

After some pictures at their house we headed to the venue to get some pictures of her Court with her!

The boys:

The always classy girls:

Meanwhile, Leandra's friend decided to surprise her and show up even though she told her she couldn't come! The below image makes me think of the movie "The Hangover" when Alan sings We are the 3 best friends that anyone could have! Don't know what I'm talking about? Click Here

Next up: DANCES...and lots of them!  Leandra and her father had the first dance, it was so touching!

Then came the Mother Daughter Dance, so sweet!

Finally, it was time for Leandra and her Date to dance. Her mom and dad both cracked me up when this happened. They were like..."put space between ya!" And "I'm just gonna stand here to make sure you don't touch my daughter!" Haha!

Ok, I know you've just witnessed lots of dancing pictures, but there was a choreographed dance that her and her friends did...it was nothing short of AMAZING!  These girls have got moves!

This picture needed it's own space, don't you agree?

To finish the blog out, here are some details of her night that made it extra special

Leandra, Sandy and the rest of the clan, thank you so much for letting me be a part of your night! -Abby
