I just wanted to write a quick post about the meteor shower last night! We wanted to see ourselves a meteor shower and the city lights around our house just weren't going to do it for us, so, my boyfriend and I drove out as far as we could without being too far away from our house (so about 30 minutes) until we hit some corn fields! Parked the truck right off the rode and grabbed our comforter and snuggled together in the back of his truck bed and stared up at the sky until we saw our first meteor! I hate to sound like an amateur star gazer, but I was SO PUMPED after I saw one for the first time!! The news article I read said it could take up to 30 minutes for your eyes to adjust and before you might even see a meteor. We saw one within 2 minutes of being settled in! BEAT THAT news people! I will tell you, I was unable to capture any meteors in camera, but I did get some OK star shots. I also learned I really need to get a shutter release remote control so thatI can leave the shutter open for longer and to get some meteors the next time! I can't wait for the next one to get back out there and try again to capture the meteors. It is seriously amazing to think there are particles out there just flying past earth as they burn up. It really is a magical world we live in!
When we got home I was FREEZING, Tired and ready for bed, but I was so happy that we made the effort to drive out to the "country" and see those meteors. We saw 38 in total (in just about an hours time!). I know the pictures aren't so great, but I had a great time - hoping it's warmer the next time a meteor shower comes along! -Abby
