As I have gotten a great opportunity to shoot many weddings over the past year and have many more coming up this year, I wanted to share my thoughts on setting up your wedding day timeline and things to think about when arranging how your day will go!
Here is an example of one of my favorite timelines:
1 - 2:30 Getting ready (hair & Make up, putting dress on, groomsmen getting dressed, etc.) - Photographers will photograph reception hall during this time as well as the getting ready pictures
3 - 3:40 Bride & Groom do a first look and take some pictures with just them
3:45 - 4:40 Bridal Party Pictures, Groomsmen pictures, Full wedding party pictures
5:30 - Ceremony
6:00 - Cocktail Party while we do family pictures
6:30 - Bridal Party gets introduced
7 - Dinner is served
7:45 Speaches while everyone finishes up eating
8 - Cake cutting
8:05 First Dance and Parent dances
8:30 Bouquet toss and Garter toss
8:45 Sneak outside with the photographer for some final pictures with the sunset and night sky
9 - 11: Everyone dances
If you opt not to do a first look, that's perfectly fine - you can either add time in between the ceremony and the reception to take pictures, or you should expect 1 of 2 things; you may not have as many photos of just you and your groom together and your whole wedding party together OR you can opt to be pulled out later in the evening while dinner or dancing is going on to get a few more shots together.
So that is just something to think about - how much time you are giving your photographer. Don't hesitate to include and ask for advice from your photographer when making your timeline, most are happy to give you advice. It really could change how you think about your wedding day! Because if they aren't given the time then please have your expectations in line on what kind of images and how many images you will receive!
